The State Government will invest more than $900 million to deliver much needed medical facilities in the west as part of their 2022/23 State Budget.
The new hospital will include a 24/7 emergency department, an intensive care unit, maternity and neonatal service, mental health and interventional services, ambulatory care and accommodate over 100 medical and surgical beds.
The facility will provide healthcare to the growing population of residents that call Melbourne’s west home and provide a support network to other hospitals in the region to meet the demand in healthcare.
The hospital will be the first of its kind in Victoria to be run solely on renewable energy. It will serve as a training facility for medical staff and generate a myriad of direct and indirect jobs.
The site has been selected in Cobblebank close to the train station and Western Freeway with construction expected to begin in 2024 with the hospital to be operating by the end of 2029.
